How To Do Milkmaid Braids
Milkmaid braids are very easy to achieve, just follow these simple guidelines:
1. To achieve volume take the top section of your hair, spray underneath it with dry shampoo or hairspray {be sure to comb the dry shampoo out though!} then backcomb.
2. Take the top section of hair and smooth it over the backcombed section. Pin it in place with bobby pins. It should look like a mini-beehive, or what Snooki from Jersey Shore calls a “pouf”.
3. You should now have a half-up, half-down look. Take the ‘half-down’ section and split in two, as if doing pigtails. Plait each side - you may wish to fishtail braid. If you have really long hair, plait the entire ‘half-down’ section into one braid, not pigtails.
4. Take one pigtail plait, bring it to the top of your head in front of the half-up bump you previously created. Bobby pin it in place. Take the other pigtail and do the same. The pigtails may overlap on top of your head, simply tuck the ends in and bobby pin securely.
5. If you have long hair and just did one plait, pull this over the top of your head and all the way around to the other side {as seen in the image above}, then bobby pin into place.
6. Add bobby pins where necessary and use hairspray to ensure you have no fly-aways and it all stays in place. You might even add a couple of cute flowers for a true milkmaid look!

I tried this today and it actually worked… so happy! This will be my new going out go to hairstyle :D But what I also like is that the back is totally up to you. You could go for a ponytail, a bun or just pinned up look… It’s totally individual! Posted by alicia.s "on" 02/12 "at"11:08 PM |

I LOVE this, so 50’s inspired, doesn’t work the greatest with a layered fringe though. Posted by DeenaH "on" 02/07 "at"06:00 PM |
