Dont forget how important the photos are-everyones gonna see them and have them for ages so think about how your makeup would look in them. Strong eye makeup looks amazing in ball photographs! orange foundation not so much so be cautious about how much you use!

Make sure you wear a color stay foundation so your make up doesn’t fade during the night and a color stay lip stick for the same reason! That way you’ll stay looking good all night in all your pictures!:)

Foundation too dark…..add some sunblock to it only a few drops and this will not only lighten it but will also protect you from the suns rays

well personally a more earthy look not to much makeup just enough to make you shine so that your makeup does not out shine your outfit.

have your hair done up if it is raining , has been that afternoon or looks like it may as if you wear it down the curls can drop and go frizzy and not look good, hair up is always a safe option

If you’re having a less-than-skinny week, avoid all bread and bakery items on the big day as these cause tummy bloating. And if you are feeling a bit low or headachy from all the stress of getting yourself so gorgeous, drink loads of water throughout the morning and you’ll feel bright and sparkly again by afternoon! Carry on sipping water to maintain your “glow” for the rest of the night.

does anyone know what is a good brand for foundation????
Posted by 909 "on" 06/03 "at"12:06 AM
for a more natural eyemake (at least more than bright blue), i think it really stands out if you use dark brown on your eyelid, then get a light brown towrds your brow, and you a mix of black and brown eyeliner, then you put on a a ligt layer of silver. A TWIST ON SMOKEY EYE <3

Make sure you dont have a facial a few days before if your skin is not used to them, trial at least a few weeks before the big day so you know how your skin will react.
Posted by fifilemon "on" 06/02 "at"03:03 PM
use a dab of your favorite peachy pink lipstick as blush just around the cheeks for a moist long wearing alternative to powdered blush!
Posted by Havikaur "on" 05/28 "at"08:21 PM
never use too much foundation
Posted by ponyhunter "on" 05/27 "at"08:04 PM
Make sure that your foundation or powder does not have spf in it! Otherwise the sun reflecting qualities in it will reflect the flash from the camera and you will come out looking pale faced! It happens to many girls and makeup artists never seem to get it right! So do not wear an spf makeup on the night :p
Posted by Claudyxx "on" 05/15 "at"11:21 PM
Always have a trial run and get your makeup done a week or two before the big night so there are no nasty surprises!

when it comes to fake tanning, don’t overdo it. No one wants to be orange at the ball!
Posted by Maddie Clarke "on" 05/11 "at"04:28 PM
If you’re on a tight budget, but want pretty fake nails - go to any pharmacy and get stick on ones instead of the really expensive professional ones. They’re cheap and look fantastic on! smile
Posted by 56607 "on" 05/09 "at"05:23 PM
Instead of getting your make-up professionally done search Google for make up ideas. It will save you alot of money ! YouTube has some fantastic tutorials on how to do make up ! However don’t go to extreme with the make up ! Natural beauty is always better ! smile
Posted by Cassidyiscool "on" 05/08 "at"12:33 PM
My tip would be to just wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Don’t just wear something to fit in with everyone else. And have fun.
Posted by laura_actually "on" 05/05 "at"03:30 PM
My tip is: If anyone else says they don’t like how you look, don’t worry about it. Because everybody has a different style, and you’ll look beautiful no matter what.
Posted by StephanieRose6 "on" 04/26 "at"01:53 PM
my tip is dont let anyone get you down. because there goes all your pretty make up =]

When you buy new shoes, walk around in them for a while to get used to them! Worst thing is walking around with sore feet!!
Posted by ckrhiggins "on" 04/24 "at"02:27 AM
its not always good to be fashionably late, schduele out your day/weekend for prepping for the ball. that way you know what to do and when
Posted by cwallace "on" 04/21 "at"02:02 PM
if you love your shoes ( who doesnt) and they are to high to be comfortable, wear them in by walking in them for 5 mins a night for a few nights, and wear gel pads for long nights like a ball.

Put make up on lightley and shine brighter than ever before . . its best o make a show too so your absolutely sure u know people have taken time to notice you . . wink

Always wear a bra! Weather it’s a strapless bra, or a stick on bra. You never know when you might slip! Plus you don’t want to show your SNE (Serious Nipple Erection). Happy balling! smile
Posted by Wenleyicious "on" 04/16 "at"11:28 AM
It always helps to get a great sleep in the two nights before the ball! smile
Posted by emilyquisourit "on" 04/15 "at"08:27 PM
I would definitely recommend doing at least one make up practice run a couple weeks beforehand to perfect how you want to do your make up if you are doing it yourself, so you can stay calm when you’re getting ready on the day! smile

If you are using a gradual fake tan go for a lighter one and build it gradually that way it helps to avoid any streaks and looks far more natural.

The golden rule is “no contest between your lips and eyes”. Dark eyes = nude lip. Bare eyes = bold lip.

Also, highlighting is essential to add glow to your face: the main areas to highlight is on the bridge of your nose, your chin, the middle of your forehead, your cheekbones, under your eyebrows, on your collarbone and your jawline.

In order to avoid that flaky look, tap your powder brush onto the applicator of the powder, not directly on the powder. Dust all over to set your base makeup but keep it light!

Highlighters should either be your skin shade or a tad lighter. Never use a highlighter that’s darker than your skintone.

The most natural blush is a creme blush. Personally, I love the Smashbox creme blusher. But a great alternative is to use a matte lipstick as your creme blush. Smile and apply some onto the apples of your cheeks - be careful not to add too much - and not too close to your nose. Also, be careful with which shade blusher you choose. You don’t want to look like a Russian doll!

If you did overdose on blusher and bronzer, it’s okay! Calm down! First, buff out the blusher/bronzer with a blush brush so it fades a little. Then, lightly cover with some liquid or powder foundation. It’s easy!

Remember never to tug the skin around your eyes - it’s fragile and delicate there and you’ll easily get wrinkles. Instead, work around that area gently by patting with your fingers or using a Q-tip.

Vasline, Baby Oil or any other oil based moisturizer is great for removing make up (even waterproof make up!). In fact, Vaseline is a godsend for most things. If your nail polish lid is screwed on too tight, Vaseline will rescue you! Just smear some under the lid and it should pop right off!

To get a smooth finish on your lipstick (if you don’t want lip gloss, that is), follow these steps. First, exfoliate your lips with a toothbrush dabbed in vaseline. When it’s all plump and smooth, apply some lip balm on. Then, line your lips (liner either your skin shade or the lipstick shade) and apply the lipstick! Beautiful.

A great perfume goes a long way. Here’s a tip: if you dab some vaseline on the areas you’re about to apply perfume, it will stay for longer. Usually, perfume is applied on the wrists, between your breasts, behind the ears, or on your neck. But remember not to spray too much or you’ll be choking those around you. Perfume’s smell fades after a while into a scent that will smell a bit different to what it originally smelled like in the bottle. Make sure you like that smell the most because that’s what you’ll be smelling like for the rest of the night.

When applying nail polish, it’s is so important to remember two things: base and top coat. The base coat will protect your fingernails against staining (who wants yellow nails?) and the top coat prevent chipping. Usually, two coats of the polish colour is perfect to achieve a good coverage. But vary how many coats you apply according to the polish’s consistency.

There’s just a few useful (and some not so well known) tips so you can rock it when ball day comes without worrying about little details like that!

Think carefully about your shoes. Yes, those killer heels may look absolutely adorable with you dress, but really - are you going to be able to survive hours on the dancefloor wearing them? Sometimes you need to comprimise style and comfort
Posted by Hillas "on" 04/15 "at"04:58 PM
Go for natural colours for the eyeshadow - like browns/creams - use a medium strength tone on the eyelid then a darker tone of the same colour around the corner of the eye lid to give a smoky look.
Also, a small sweep of vasaline under your eye on the top of your cheek bone will draw attention to your eyes.
Posted by 55505 "on" 04/15 "at"04:32 PM
If you break out the day of your ball like I did, pop a dab of visine on any red spots to take the colour away. Dont squeeze them, just cover them up, rather than making big angry red bits all over your face - lets be honest, you will be the only one who sees them - and the likelihood that they will show up in photos is slim! Just relax and worry about other things like tucking your dress into your undies!
Posted by sasssy "on" 04/15 "at"04:10 PM
If you can’t afford to get your makeup done professionally and are doing it yourself, the one thing I can definitely recommend is fake eyelashes! They’ll make your eyes pop! It doesn’t matter what brand you get - could be the cheap $2 ones, it depends on the glue (Manicare has great glue for about $5 from any pharmacy and will keep your lashes stuck all night! Just remember to take them off before bed!) And most of all, enjoy yourself!! :D

If you don’t want your lippy to leech out, outline your lips with concealer.
Posted by Miky "on" 04/14 "at"10:30 PM
It’s always great to have natural looking make up as the harsher and brighter colours may wear off during the evening. Keep in mind to have a spare lip balm or lipstick in your purse though! Fresh lips enhance your entire look.
Posted by 11061 "on" 04/13 "at"11:44 PM
i love the look of a bright colourful dress with nude makeup- you need to take special care with this look though, especially nude lipstick that suits your skin tone is the most important thing!
Posted by 50330 "on" 04/13 "at"04:28 PM
Keep it simple, natural and fresh! Eyebrows frame your entire face, so make sure these are plucked and darkened if need be! Wear a smile, cos this is the most important accessory ever! smile
Posted by Ebby1 "on" 04/12 "at"07:52 PM
Always use an oil free toner!
Posted by laura_actually "on" 04/12 "at"05:45 PM
to make eyes look captivating and sparkly add a dab of white or cream sparkly eyeshadow to the middle of your eyelids just under your eyebrow. Dont forget to smooth it out so it looks like you’re naturally fabulous all the time!! Do not use foundation with sunscreen in it as you will look pasty as in photos
Posted by Annessa "on" 04/12 "at"08:33 AM
Hav a practice run! even with a pro!!

Get your makeup done somewhere, its not everyday you go to a ball.
Posted by chelsea m "on" 04/09 "at"03:09 PM
if you are going to die your hair, make sure you do it a couple of weeks before the ball incase you dont like it or it needs time to set in.

To check that your foundation is going to match the rest of you in the photos, turn your head as if looking behind you and get someone to take a photo of your face and shoulder with both the flash on, and flash off. Then you can make sure you don’t look like you’ve seen a ghost in EVERY photo! Xo

I always think that simplicity is key to beautiful make up at your prom, you should balance everything out, but not overdo it, if you decide to wear bright red lipstick, go for a light natural eye makeup, or you feel like smokey eyes is your thing then a light nude gloss would finish your makeup perfectly!
Posted by amethes567 "on" 04/07 "at"05:22 PM
make sure that you keep it fresh and simple or a style like the smokey eye look. If you can, get a proffesional to do you make up, or spend some quality time with your mum and get her to do it for you!

If your doing your makeup yourself you MUST give yourself PLENTY of time! Theres nothing worse than panicing and rushing then doing a bad job that your not pleased with. Its the quickest way to ruin a night.
Posted by Madison x "on" 04/06 "at"06:39 PM
Less is more!  Let your true beauty shine through and skip the foundation, just dot some concealer on any blemishes and set it with a translucent powder.  A little highlighter on the cheekbones also goes a long way!
Posted by joon "on" 04/06 "at"04:54 AM
Don’t be afraid of powder…you may think it is too much over your foundation but it really helps to reduce shine on the face so you will continue to look fab in your photos!
Posted by Nicole.A "on" 04/05 "at"11:52 PM
theres this AMAZING foundation that looks good in ANY light, perfect for when your taking those photos - Revlon Photoready Foundation, works great and doesn’t breaking the bank ! :D
Posted by resa_luv "on" 04/05 "at"10:35 PM
Practice your make up well before the ball so that you can adjust the colours and tweak little bits instead of trying to do it the night before and freaking out smile
Posted by Mayghan "on" 04/05 "at"08:03 PM
keep your make up simple and dont over do it
Posted by 54276 "on" 04/05 "at"07:13 PM
If you’re not confident with a lot of make up, especially eye make up, just leave it! A fresher face is better in the evening, simple yet effective smile
Posted by emily.jean "on" 04/05 "at"10:46 AM
Definetly don’t overdo it on the fake tan! You might think that you’ll “blend in” on the night but just think how you’re going to look in the days following!
Posted by lalala7 "on" 04/05 "at"07:04 AM
The key to your makeup looking good is the base. Its all in the foundation. Choose a well known brand such as Revlon who are relatively cheap while providing a good product. The counter is serviced in places like Farmers, so a professional chooses the colour for you!
Posted by Bee "on" 04/04 "at"11:12 PM
If your going to try anything new for your hair, makeup, nails or fake tan etc be sure to do a trial run atleast 3 weeks before the night so you can be prepared, nothing worse then trying to put fake eyelashes on for the first time and it going horribly wrong on the night
Posted by jea525 "on" 04/04 "at"10:03 PM
If you get Napoleon to do your make up you then get $65 worth of products and the make over free smile and it looks awesome!

no matter how you look youll always be gorgeous in your own way, confidence is key
Posted by kimmyii "on" 03/26 "at"11:45 PM
Don’t do blue eyeshadow. Just don’t. Especially not with red lips.
Posted by akg3 "on" 03/26 "at"11:13 PM
SMOKY EYES are a big statement, so go natural with the rest of your make up.
Posted by cuppycake "on" 03/26 "at"12:22 PM
to get LONG LASTING red lips, apply crem concealer to your lips then brush on lipstick. Blot, and apply more colour.
Posted by cuppycake "on" 03/26 "at"12:20 PM
Never touch your face with your hands-the oils on them will melt your make up! If your dancing and sweating, gently blot your face with a paper napkin or tissue.
Posted by cuppycake "on" 03/26 "at"12:19 PM
If you think your eyes are your best feature, play them up. Go strong and smoky. Or bright and colourful. Paint your nails, cause people will notice your boring plain nails. Co-ordinate it. and have fun =)
(Tip: Take safety pins incase of a dress malfunction)
Posted by Kayxx "on" 03/26 "at"11:31 AM
Because it’s the evening with false lighting, minimise the eye make up. Dont go too dark with the eye make up especially with eyeliner on the bottom of your eyes, they’ll look smaller!
Posted by emily.jean "on" 03/25 "at"10:05 PM
keep in mind lighting. generally the lighting at a ball is not particularly bright so id recommend a smokey eye as it will be seen and look good. as a general rule it will go well with most dresses. trial hair before the day. my sister had a problem where the hairdresser had no idea what to do and it took 2 hairdressers and 3 trys to get it right. my sister was in tears because of it. if getting a fake tan do it atleast 2 days before so you wont look orange. another girl i went 2 school with got hers the day of and was called ompa loompa for the rest of the year. dont forget to moisturise and if you normally dont have long nails and get false nails try not to make them too long as you will find it difficult to use your fingers.
Posted by lana_be "on" 03/25 "at"09:33 PM
If you’re wearing long glue on fake nails, make sure they are the last thing you do before you leave. Otherwise it can be a bit tricky trying to put on foundation with them on smile
Posted by 56607 "on" 03/25 "at"09:19 PM
Don’t wear glittery powder on your face- you look shiny ie oily in the photos!! Glitter looks best only in small portions of eyeshadow, blusher, or lip gloss
Most important of all, HAVE FUN!! :D
Posted by iii "on" 03/25 "at"05:42 PM
Always be yours self. focus on having a great night with your friends!
Posted by Machatte "on" 03/25 "at"04:21 PM
hmmmmm I wonder what colour dress goes with red lips
Posted by Kristy Flower "on" 03/25 "at"04:18 PM
Don’t forget about your nails! You don’t have to get a full mani/pedi, but just make sure your hands are moisturised, and you fingers and toes are neat and tidy. smile
Posted by tabithamay "on" 03/25 "at"03:27 PM
Don’t get your hair cut or coloured on the day of the ball, if it turns out wrong there’s not much you can do about it. Always pre do it!!
Posted by carenem "on" 03/25 "at"03:06 PM
use a natural makeup base thats not too pale in shade
Posted by dancer666 "on" 03/25 "at"09:45 AM
Don’t over do the make up, make sure that you smell fresh and clean, be your self, don’t feel the need to act like someone else. Embrase the girly in you and don’t feel like you are over doing anything.
Posted by missymoo "on" 03/23 "at"04:05 PM
Use a long lasting makeup setting spray so your make up doesn’t deteriorate over the night
Re post below, toe petals are the best ones smile
Posted by imcd009 "on" 03/23 "at"03:50 PM
Get shoe inserts. trust me your feet will need them if you’re going to be dancing in heels all night long!!
Posted by Bee "on" 03/23 "at"12:20 PM
Don’t overdo it! put on make up that makes you look fresh and young and something your comfortable in. I suggest colours that go with your eye colour for inspiration look for a celeb with roughly the same colour hair and eyes and see what they do! Remember to be different stand out and don’t be afraid!
Posted by Mayghan "on" 03/23 "at"09:50 AM
wear something you feel fabulous in!
