Best Hair Removal Techniques

Best Hair Removal Techniques

Finding the best hair removal technique doesn’t have to be hard. Everyone is different, but there is a technique to suit us all. Here are some common options:

Shaving: The pain factor is nil {unless you nick yourself - ouch!} and the cost is low. Overall shaving is a good option for most people. To prevent irritation, shaving rash and nicks, use a good, thick shaving cream and go slowly, but surely - particularly if you are shaving the bikini line. Remember hair grows back quickly if you shave it, and can have a stubbly appearance - so NEVER shave any area of your face.

Waxing: While waxing can be very painful for some people, it has a smooth, long-lasting effect and eventually makes hair grow back softer and finer. You may wish to try waxing at home, but the preferred option is to have a qualified beautician do it. For bikini lines and brazilians, take a pain killer beforehand to decrease the pain. Waxing needs to be done once every 6 - 8 weeks.

IPL: Laser hair removal is expensive, but offers a permanent, smooth, hairless look. To start with you will need 6 - 8 sessions, about six weeks apart. Hair will eventually ‘fall out’ and will not grow back. Many people swear by laser hair removal as it is fuss-free, permanent and relatively pain-free.

Tweezing: This is only recommended for small areas such as eyebrows and upper lip. This is a good technique to use if you need a ‘quick fix’ before a big event, or to keep your brows/upper lip area maintained between appointments. It is very cost effective if you have your own tweezers, just learn the right technique and DON’T over-tweeze your eyebrows!

Threading: This technique is an old Middle Eastern tradition. Many beauty salons now offer it for a reasonable price, and as it is a tricky technique it is highly recommended to go to a beautician. The technique has a low pain factor and great results.

Electrolysis: This is said to have a longer lasting, more guarenteed effect than laser hair removal. It can be time-consuming on larger areas, but is great for chin, upper lip and eyebrow areas. You will need to visit a licensed electrolysist to have this form of hair removal done. The pain level is higher that laser hair removal and you will need a great deal more sessions, so it can be expensive.

I have invested in an epilator as well! They are amazing, they can be quite painful in more sensitive areas. But, like waxing- the more you do it the less painful it is. The results are totally worth it.

Threading has a low pain factor? Now thats a lie! Threading the upper-lip and eyebrows was the most painful experience I have ever had for hair removal - myself/family/friends still come out with tears down our face from the shock of the pain. I would recommend shaving for legs and underams, waxing for eyebrows and upper lip and tweezing for maintenance. Lastly, you should definately get the bikini area waxed professionally - its fast, easy, not messy, slight painful but it is tolerable.

mickime - That darker hair appearance is because the end of the hair is blunt - it won’t change colour!!!
I have an epilator, which is a machine that has a bunch of teeny tiny tweezers in it. I works well, although it is very noisy and takes a long time to do - you use it in little circles in both directions where ever you want to remover the hair. I often put a movie on (loudly) and do it then - the movie is a good distraction from the little bit of pain as well wink

im only 11 but i find shaving works well but if you start off with blonde leg hairs or under arm hairs dont shave untill they eventuly turn black or you reach the age where you think that it needs to be done <3
