Trend to try: Heels with socks
I keep seeing socks worn with heels! I think it looks cool in magazines, but do you really think it’s ok to wear socks and heels normally?
I absolutely love the socks and heels combo and it can definitely translate from the runway to the street. But you are right to be a bit hesitant with this one – it’s not for everyone. The sock/heel combo requires a lot of confidence, some great heels and a little fake tan to pull off comfortably. Here are a few tips and tricks to get it right…
Start small. Wearing socks with shoe boots may ease you into the swing of things.
Ankle socks look best just above the ankle bone, any higher and you risk shortening your leg. Remember the aim is to create long, lean legs, check and double check they are the right height in a full length mirror.
Try a neutral colour first off. Greys work well with most shoe colours – tan, black and even grey on grey will look great. Once you have mastered this look you can move on to the pastels and patterned socks… but steer clear of white!
Prepare to bare. The heel/sock combo will draw the passer-by’s eye downward so make sure you have prepared your pins properly. A little fake tan and some glistening body butter should stand you in good steed.
A little shy? If you don’t quite love your legs (I am sadly one of these people), try wearing ankle socks over tights. You get the coverage of an opaque stocking without loosing the high fashion style of the sock/heel combo.
Be confident in your style choices and wear your sock/heel combo with pride - you’ll look like you walked off the pages of your fav fashion magazine.
