for, when I got my license i was definitely too young. It’s a huge responsibility, the lives of other people on the road depend on you driving safely.  I understand the need for transport in rural communities, but I think safety is way more important.

lowering? don’t you mean raising? I think it should be raised to 16, and then there should be a limit, depending on your age, to what type of car you drive. 50cc is an excellent start for a beginner, its just a moped, then as you get older your range of horse power increases. If this happened then there would be no boy racers around killing people. 15 is waaay too young, you’re only a child.

I personally think you should be 18 to drive. So many young drivers who like to hoon around in their cars which result in accidents :(

against! for girls it should be 15 and boys 16.they are BOY racers right? i think girls are a little bit more responsible. RE: 50237… how old are you anyway?!! this is a website for teenagers or ‘children’ as you say. I would rather feel safe and secure in a car than on a 50cc moped.

I NEVER stated this website was for children, I’m 17. Explain what my age has to do with what I said, other than your ignorance and manipulation of text. I was using a moped as an example. Why should a 15 year old be allowed to drive a car with a v8 engine? Too much power for most to handle. Boy racers is just a sexist term, everyone knows girls do it too, wheres you logic in that statement.

No way should it be raised! if you raise it to 18, how are students to get to uni? you can’t expect a uni student to have their parents sit with them in their car as they drive to uni, and you can’t expect all the thousands of students to bus.
16’s not too bad, but it takes 3-4 years to get your full license anyway, and it’s not as easy as people think it will be. the age shouldn’t be raised but there should be harsher punishments, it’s not everyone who’s damaging peoples property or causing accidents, it’s the same people again and again. everyone shouldn’t be punished for the acts of a minority. the people who do the irresponsible things should have their license taken off them on the first self caused accident. like a guy I know plowed his car through a fence and he was on his restricted and didn’t get it taken off him.  that’s just ridiculous

You, my dear, are an idiot. Boy racers? Are you serious? It doesn’t just refer to little boys honey, there’s plenty of little girls out there screwing up people’s lives with poor driving. 15 year olds are children, it’s actually a medical fact. You are quite simply not mentally developed enough to have the suitable reaction times or the decision making skills to cope on the road. And if your comment is any indication of your intelligence, then pai kare! Please dear lord do not get your license for at least 5 years.

Well For the current 14 year old who want thier license this year when they turn 15, It sux for them.. (me) And think about it. 15 is too young. I agree. BUT therte are many excited 14 year old who want their license this year as soon as they turn 15 and they wont wana wait a few more years. And I dont care. Im turning 15 in Nov, I would like to get it as soon as i can but Hey, If they raise it then they do! So all in all its getting the young drivers off the road. My brother was killed by a 15 year old learner driver two years ago. So personally they Should raise it. She was at fault too

I’m all for it.

I’m 19 this month, and I still don’t have my license, but it seems that it’s always the younger people dying in road accidents.

because it takes quite a while to get your full licence… instead of raising it they could just make the tests harder, the restricted test should be more thorough and have a theory test with it as well.

hey im 16 and have my learners,
i believe harsher consequences should be put in place for law breaking but do not belive the age should be raised as i have work and school, and sport not to mention a social life! i live out of town and its way unfair on my parents who always have to rin me around.
i look foward to getting a car for the freedom and to let my parents ‘off the hook’ sometimes by giving them a break.

Hi, I’ve just turned 16 and I have my restricted licence.  I think the age should be raised to 16 as it is a lot of responsibility!  However not all young people are stupid so there are some responsible teenagers who are being let down by the bad drivers.  I have never carried passengers on my restricted and I always stick to the speed limit (and often I get rudely tooted at for that!).  I think it should be the parents decision on how reliable their child is, but I definitely think it should be raised to16 (but no higher!)
