I had the same problem but i found i couldnt sleep because i was constantly thinking about stupid little things and worrying over nothing, i told my mum and she brought me this stuff called rescue remedy from the chemist it doesnt cause sleepyness but you spray it on your tounge (it tastes fine) and it calms you down and makes it so you cant string together many thoughts, it always helps me sleep. and if you find yourself stressing throughout the day you can try it then

1
Associate your bedroom with sleep and rest and do not multitask in it.

2
Maintain a consistent schedule and go to bed and wake up around the same time every day.

3
Wear a sleep mask and try earplugs or a white-noise machine to reduce environmental distractions.

4
Stop smoking and avoid alcohol, caffeine and a heavy meal before bedtime.

5
Stay awake during the day and do not nap. By not napping, you will make your body more tired at night.

6
Exercise during the day or early evening rather than at night. Exercising within three hours of bedtime can keep your body alert and make it harder to fall asleep.

Once upon a time,
I dreamt I was a butterfly,
flittering hither and thither,
to all intents and purposes a butterfly
...suddenly I awoke…
Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether
I am now a butterfly
dreaming I am a man

I had the same problem for about 4 years, then my mum found this thing called white noise, I downloaded it onto my iTunes and just play it through my laptop on repeat while I sleep. Im not sure how it helps but it actually did for quite ages. Look into it, might be worth trying smile

There are many great responses here I honestly don’t know if what I have to say is much different.  I use Scully’s Lavender balm & it does wonders for me.  Clutter begets clutteriness so have a spruce up of your bedroom & get rid of anything surplus to your needs.  The darkness thing is super important, too much light for too long in the evening messes with your body clock.  Think if you were an animal out in the world you would get up at first light to get stuff done, rest midday in the heat as it can be too energy expensive to carry on with tasks then as the day rolls into night you finish off any work needed done & begin to wind down & feel tired enough for sleep, you wouldn’t be staying up in the cold dark.  The world we live is lit all hours with no end to stimulation, tv, computers, email, texting etc. but this is not natural animal behaviour so somewhere along the way you have to stop & change your habits to produce new ones.  I have no electronics in my room, nothing to stimulate my mind & I pretty much have a set bedtime of 10pm which I prepare myself for by knowing whatever needs doing must be done before then, I exercise daily, don’t eat late, avoid coffee, no calls after 9pm unless urgent.  Whenever I have trouble sleeping I use the Alternate Nostril Breath (Anulom Viloma) & also the Sounding Breath (Ujjayi), these are very easy techniques to learn & can be easily googled.  I hope you give them a go, what have you got to lose right.  I hope you get into a nice zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz’s pattern soon.  Sweet dreams.  smile

Go to bed every night at the same time. Wake up every day at the same time. Try to sleep 7-9 hours every night.

I just read that Californian Poppy tea is good for calming and aiding a restful sleep and if you have lemon balm in your garden make a tea by infusing in in hot water for a few minutes, it has calming properties and may aid sleep also.

i used to have trouble falling asleep, just think of yourself in a hammoc and the beach swaying gentely, or somwhere else relaxing. you could try clenching up all of your body and holding it like that for a couple of seconds and then slowly starting from your toes unclench your body. You could also try just making up a fairytale storey in yoour head or you could try this thing where you think your walking down this staircase and evrystep down you take you can smell a bit more lovely flowers, and when you are relaxed (gone down lots of stairs) then think that you got down and you see this little door, like alice and wonderland and you go through it and you see this beautiful garden, and just imagine in, imagin all the little flowerbeds and the different types of flowers. or you could go through the alfabet and just think of all the fruit (or vegtables) starting with that letter, and just go throught the whole alfabet, you could try doing the alfabett with other stuff, like ppls names or towns or shops. Or create a fake maze indide you head that your going through.  Or pretend to wrap a present or decerate the christmas tree or design your dream house. Or just before you go to bed draw a continuous line just around the page, it apparently makes you relax.  I wrote so much beacuse I know what its like to not be able to go to sleep, HORRABLE!!! my dad made up all this stuff, and it seamed to work with me. If you need any help with other ideas, please contact me, I know how annoying it is! :( email me at: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
PS. or you could get hynotised: Hypnothearopy

smile I HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!
I hope this all helps, try it!!! smile or print it out.

I have bad problems sleeping. I find it really hard to get to sleep. I can be super tired but I still can’t get myself to fall asleep. Sometimes I only get to sleep at 5 in the morning and it’s really horrible because it makes me feel and look horrible. I’ve seen the doctor but her advice didn’t help and I’m not allowed to use sleeping pills. Any one got any ideas?

look at my post (page 2)

try reading every night until your eyes are super tired and you cant do anything but sleep, also eat something wth no sugar (or natural sugar like fruit) when you are digesting food you will sleep easier. Make sure your bedroom is the right temperature and dont do anything in bed other than sleep (no going on a phone or laptop, studying etc..). if none of this helps contact your doctor for some sleeping pills.  hope this helps good luck x
