Tattoos - ideas and advice

More people are getting tattoos today than ever before! If you’re thinking about it, here are a few things to consider…
It won’t rub out. Ok, it’s pretty self-explanatory, but as far as fashion statements go, tattoos are pretty permanent. If you don’t like that fluoro jumpsuit you bought last week you can return it - or bury it in a draw - but get your boy’s name branded on your boob, and here’s hoping he’s a keeper!
Express yourself. Keeping it personal means you’ll be more likely to like your tattoo for longer - so get a talented friend or tattoo artist to help you design one you’ll love forever!
Location, location. When it comes to tattoos, where is just as important as what. If your tattoo’s somewhere that’s likely to stretch and distort, your tattoo is likely to stretch and distort too!
It’ll cost you. The cost of your tattoo will depend on the size and intricacy of the design. But when it comes to something this permanent - cheaper isn’t always better! If you can’t afford to get the whole piece done in one go, talk to the artist about whether you can have it done in stages.
Go pro. It’s important to get your tattoo done somewhere clean, and by someone who knows what they’re doing! Make sure the artist uses sterile equipment to do the tattoo, and be sure to follow the aftercare instructions they give you to avoid infection. Click here for some basic aftercare tips.
Important: A little redness or swelling is normal, but if you’re worried your tattoo is badly infected, see a doctor straight away.

I think tattoos should be super personally to you and express who you are. Not just something you get done. I think a tattoo should be something that you look back and smile at. Not something that will make you cringe Posted by roxi527 "on" 03/02 "at"11:22 PM |

i know exactly what i want for my tattoo but i have to wait (maybe i’ll get it for my 21st in a few years). Mainly I just don’t have the money for it but i’d like to wait because i’m not quite ready to get it.=] Posted by Pumpkin Pei "on" 02/28 "at"08:25 PM |
| I have five tattoos and I’m 18, I regret none of them and they all have an incredibly personal meaning to me. If you pick something that has a deep personal meaning then you’re generally fine, unless you’re doing boyfriend/girlfriend/partner/best friend ones. Its all very well thinking you’ll be best friends/lovers forever but things can change very quickly! Posted by elorahh "on" 02/28 "at"12:13 AM |

All artists have different styles they’re really good at so it’s good to look through their photo albums of previous work to see if you like what they do before talking designs with them. When I met Aaron at Visual Intelligence Tattoo and Art Studio in Dunedin I knew I would never have anyone else work on me again. He makes you feel safe and comfortable, I had my own music playing, his work is fantastic and he complies with strict standards and procedures of hygiene. I highly recommend Visual Intelligence in Dunedin to anyone looking for outstanding work and a comfortable enjoyable experience. Posted by Bobannie "on" 10/05 "at"11:05 AM |

I am hopefully getting mine just after Christmas because then i would have known for 7-8 months what i wanted! My parents suggested using a sharpie and drawing the tattoo on myself for at least two months and then decide if i still want it.. Posted by CHRISSIEcooper. "on" 09/09 "at"05:03 PM |

i agree with fortyeightroses - put your design somewhere you can see it everyday and see if you get sick of it after a month or two! Posted by A-Dawg "on" 02/26 "at"03:40 PM |
| can’t bear the pain you hav to go through to get sumtyn inked into your body… i’d rather just get an artist to do it on canvas and hang it on the wall Posted by x.kingdom.gal.x "on" 01/20 "at"03:49 PM |
| Pick a design you like. Put it somewhere you can see it everyday, like on your bedroom wall. If you can’t stand the sight of it in, say… three months(maybe even longer!), you know it’s not the one for you Posted by fortyeightroses "on" 01/15 "at"02:25 PM |
| i want one so bad but am too scared i will pick something i will hate… Posted by ellaesim "on" 01/15 "at"09:58 AM |
