Hair Trend Report
There’s no denying that hair stylist Louise Pilkington knows how to spot a trend. She’s just returned from New York Fashion Week where she worked backstage on the Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Marc by Marc, Reed Krakoff and Calvin Klein Fall 2010 shows as part of the Redken Global Artistic team, and she headed up the Redken styling team backstage at this year’s iD Dunedin event. Whew! So when we got the chance we had to ask her ‘what’s hot for hair?’ Here’s what she had to say…
A look I like to call ‘organic glamour’ is huge – basically this consists of elements of glamour but with a nod towards waves and a glossy finish. This is still a very natural look and is similar to a lived-in blow-wave. We created this look for Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren shows at New York Fashion Week.
The trend towards the clothing on the catwalk becoming the statement and the hair being simple, expensive looking, natural and sexy is prevalent. This is the kind of hair that makes you look like a rich woman! It is thick, healthy and well-looked after and it doesn’t look as though you have spent a lot of time on it - it is simply beautiful.
Another key trend is the messy textured look. This is mostly shown through the messy side plait and fringe. A nod to the Brigitte Bardot style – models had thick, messy hair that was often braided to one side.
From the messy texture trend is a complete jump to the sleek look which we created for a few New York shows. This look is embodied by the flawlessly groomed pony tail that is kept perfectly in place. This trend was huge for Calvin Klein at New York Fashion Week.
