Do energy drinks make a good snack?

Do energy drinks make a good snack?

Most so-called ‘energy’ drinks are actually just high in sugar and caffeine - meaning they’ll give you a buzz, but won’t provide lasting energy.

What’s more, drinking too many of them can lead to anxiety, heart irregularities, weight gain and stomach problems, or at the very least give you the jitters! Instead of knocking back energy drinks when you need a snack or pick me up, opt for quality energy sources like fruit, smoothies and nuts. Eating these and other ‘whole’ foods (foods that are unprocessed and unrefined), when you’re hungry will actually help to stabilise your appetite, your weight and your mood, as well as provide you with real energy.

Having the occasional energy drink won’t hurt, but relying on them as a daily habit isn’t a good idea. Of course, the best way to avoid the need to drink them is to nourish your body and to take time out regularly to rest and restore!

Comon Discuss It..
I would drink an energy drink fairly regularly.. Possibly 1-2 a week. I decided that I had too much sugar in my diet, so I’ve decided to cut all energy drinks and fizzy drinks from my diet. I’ve allowed myself to have anything but water or milk only when I’m not at home. Occasionally I don’t think it’s too bad to have an energy drink so maybe once every couple of months I’ll have one.

I am currently breaking my terrible habit of having a V (or two) a day! I found I had developed a compulsion to buy them so now I keep one unopened in a bag so that when I see one in a shop, I can think to myself that I already have one and it’s a waste of money! I also make sure that I always have a bottle of water with me now so that when I feel thirsty there really is no excuse to drink an energy drink instead of water.

I think this generation are the one’s that are going to suffer from things like diabetes and dietary problems because of empty so called food like this. Because this is not a natural source of food for the body, eventually the body gives up and will tell you that you have over indulged in this type of thing

Energy drinks have a bad rep but if you know enough about them and know how to use them then they’re not that bad. If you drink them instead of water then it’s not a healthy habit, but diet/sugarfree energy drinks are a great way to keep to a daily calorie limit while also being able to get a pick-me-up. The sweetners in them have been proven to be harmless. I’m still pro the idea of energy drinks. smile

I think like everything in life - they’re okay in moderation. I know someone who drinks up to 5 cans a day and hardly eats - she has a stomach ulcer and was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes - whether this can be connected directly to her habit or not I can’t say.. but it looks pretty clear to me. As for me, I try and avoid them but as a uni student sometimes you just need one. I find that if I have one early in the morning (before 9am) it will actually help me to concentrate and feel more alert for the better part of the day - which is useful during the exam period. They’re fine to have - just only when you REALLY need them - and make sure you’re tough on yourself about when those situations are. They’re not an everyday drink.

Energy drinks are totally terrible for you. My friend drank too many one day and ended up burning a whole in her stomach, and there’s nothing you can do but wait for that to heal!
