Dairy foods. Do I cut them out?
The myth: I shouldn’t eat dairy!
Say what?! Dairy products like milk and yoghurt are an important source of calcium, so - unless you’re intolerant - eliminating dairy is a bad idea! We need calcium for good bone health, and to avoid the risk of developing health problems like osteoporosis.
Having said that, whole fat dairy products are high in saturated fat, so go for low fat options. At least 3 servings of dairy are recommended per day – try low fat milk, cheese and yoghurt as snacks.
The myth: When you feel tired, go for an energy drink
Say what?! Most so-called ‘energy’ drinks are high in sugar and caffeine - meaning they’ll give you a buzz, but won’t provide lasting energy. Instead, at snack time, go for quality energy sources like fruit, nuts or seeds.
In the drink department, fresh juices or low fat smoothies will give you a boost! But make water or low fat milk your first choice! Check this for more!
Tip! If you’re always tired, make sure you’re getting enough iron …and sleep!
