How to resist chocolate!

ChocolateThere’s nothing worse than being super-hungry - and dinner’s still an hour away. Sick of snacking on carrot sticks? Here are some light and healthy alternatives that’ll tide you over, but won’t fill you up.

Yoghurt parfait
Create your own yoghurt and fruit mix and serve chilled for a light, sweet treat between meals.

Pita crisps and hummus
Make your own pita crisps by lightly brushing a piece of flatbread with olive oil and toasting under the grill till golden. Break into pieces and eat with hummus or your favourite low-fat dip.

Vegie fries
Potatoes aren’t the only star here! Cut your favourite vegies (like carrots, kumara and parsnip) into strips or chunks, baste lightly with olive oil, and bake until tender on the inside, and crispy on the outside. Taste great with a low-fat dip or aioli.

Edamame beans
So simple, so good! Served as an appetiser at many Japanese restaurants, edamame are soybeans, steamed and salted. Grab a handful of frozen beans and thaw them in boiling water. Lightly Sseason with salt, or a little lemon juice.

Fresh juice
It’s an obvious one, but a freshly blended juice is a great way to settle your hunger between meals, AND get a whole lot of nutrients your body needs. Try experimenting with weird fruit/vegie combinations to find your perfect mix!

Yum! With all these tasty - but healthy - options, filling the gap with junk food won’t even feel like an option. Just make sure you leave room for dinner!
