Speed up your metabolism
Metabolism is the amount of energy (calories) your body burns to maintain itself. Whether you’re eating, watching tv, sleeping, or working out, your body is constantly burning calories to keep you going. Some people burn up energy more quickly than others.
Who gets the fast or slow metabolism?
It may be in our genes to have a fast or a slow metabolism. However, the food we eat and the exercise we do counts towards how quickly we burn energy. Age also plays a part. A child’s metabolism is faster than an elderly person’s because it slows with age. As you go through your teenage years your metabolism will probably begin to slow. Those chocolates and chips you used to eat lots of at primary school may not metabolise as fast as they used to, so a cut back may be in order.
Can I do anything about the speed of my metabolism?
Like most things about your body, if you really want to change them, you can, it just takes a bit of effort. If you’re prepared to try though, here are three ways to rev up your metabolism:
1. Nutrition. Nutrition is very important for metabolism. If you starve yourself of vital nutrients, or skip meals, your body will rebel by slowing down your metabolism. This may cause you to put on weight because your body saves up extra fat to survive next time you miss a meal.
Most experts recommend that 50 to 60 per cent of the total calories in our diet come from carbohydrates. There are two types of carbohydrates- complex and simple. Complex carbohydrates such as brown rice, vegetables, bread and pasta keep us full for longer and prevent snacking. Simple carbohydrates digest quicker and have the opposite effect, they make us hungry sooner. Simple carbohydrates are sugars found in junk food, dessert, fruit and fruit juice, milk and honey. The bulk of the carbs we consume should be complex and most of the simple ones should come from fruits and milk or yoghurt.
2. Hydration. Hydration is vital. Drink water, water and more water in even amounts throughout the day! Starving yourself of liquid will slow down your metabolism just like starving yourself of food, and may cause headaches, bad breath and lack of concentration.
3. Physical Activity. We all know about pushing play thirty minutes a day. Exercise comes in many forms - walking to the bus stop before and after school, helping out in the garden, playing sports and doing pilates are all great forms of exercise. The more you exercise the more you will raise your metabolic rate and be in better shape. It is important to maintain a regular exercise routine now and into adulthood.
Ways to effectively speed up your metabolism:
Eat a big breakfast: This will super boost your metabolism for the day and keep your blood sugar levels even, preventing sugar cravings.
Lifting weights: The more muscle you have the faster your metabolism. You don’t need to buy weights - just use cans of beans from the pantry!
Keep your liver healthy: Your liver is your body’s toxin filter. If you keep this working healthily you will maintain a healthy metabolism too. Keeping your liver at its best involves avoiding caffeine and alcohol.
Remember that if you raise your metabolism you must work on maintaining it, otherwise it will slip back to its old speed quick smart.

And its important not to go LONG periods without eating something. Sometimes when I’m out and busy, I will go for 10 -12 hours without eating anything, and this will slow down your metabolism. I have to remember to take some nuts or healthy snacks to munch on every few hours. Posted by Starlight "on" 02/13 "at"08:57 PM |

Also you should eat rite AFTER you workout because that is when your metabolism is the highest. Also try not to eat after 7:00 P.M. Because your body is getting into a “sleep mode” So your Metabolism is slowing down. Posted by Missjessiegurl "on" 01/24 "at"04:13 PM |
