Healthy snacks in a flash
Not lunch or dinner time, but you’re starving? Avoid filling up on junk with these healthy snack ideas.
Toasted muffin splits
These are soooo good toasted with virtually anything on top! Toast muffins and try these combos:
- Banana and honey
- Avocado and tomato and/or Marmite
- Sautéed capsicum/courgette and hummus
- Tuna and avocado and/or cheese
Soup and wholegrain toast
Homemade soup is THE BEST, but if you’re short on time, look for a low-salt pre-made variety with a bit of texture e.g. minestrone or vegetable. Top with some grated cheese if you like and enjoy with a slice of wholemeal toast or English muffin.
Pita pockets
These little babies can be stuffed with virtually anything - and served hot, toasted or cold. Try with hummus, tomato, Marmite/Vegemite, baked beans - anything you love!
Fruit smoothie
Load up some milk or yoghurt in a blender with your favourite mix of fruit. Add some almonds or protein powder if you need an extra energy boost.

Hi again
Carbs are not a bad thing. A healthy balanced diet includes both carbs and protein. The bottom line is that if you expend (use up) more calories than you take in through food, you will lose weight regardless of whether those calories that you eat consist of carbs or protein. Again, I can quote my own experiences over the past 10-odd years - my diet includes lots of carbs (I eat more carbs than I do protein) and carbs have never made me gain weight. Hope this helps!
