QUIZ: What’s REALLY in that?
YES
Oops, Incorrect
OK, so we’re all getting smarter about what’s in and out of our food, but do we know enough to eat our way to good health and energy?
Take our quiz to get the real truths.
Answers Explained:
Question 1:
All of the above! Lean red meat is one of the best sources of iron, but whole grains and legumes can be good (vegetarian friendly) sources too. Make sure you get some Vitamin C to help absorption – try some veges or fruit! It’s really important to keep our iron levels up!
Question 2:
Not always! While kebabs are a better option than a lot of other fast foods, some places make healthier kebabs than others. It really does depend on where you go! Some shops use meat that’s high in fat - go vegie if you’re unsure but make sure the falafel isn’t deep fried! Also, dousing your kebab in six different dressings can up the fat content hugely, so take it easy!
Tip: Order a mini kebab and go for tomato based sauces!
Question 3:
A handful of dried fruit is your best bet here! Though dried fruit can be high in sugar, it’s a far better source of energy than lollies and energy drinks! Plus, if you go for something like dried figs, you’ll get a nice little iron boost too!
Question 4:
Oranges, tomatoes and cauliflower - yes, cauliflower! - are all great sources of vitamin C. We need vitamin C to aid our growth and development. It’s also good for our immune system, so eat up!
Question 5:
Oily fish like salmon and sardines, and pumpkin seeds all contain essential fatty acids, which give us healthy skin, nails and hair.
Question 6:
Hopefully you went with c - nicotine! Low fat milk, as with all low fat dairy products (yoghurt, cheese etc.), is an excellent source of calcium - and broccoli is too! Broccoli’s actually a bit of an all round superfood, so if you want a dose of nutrients, dish up!
