So you wanna…job with variety?

Name: Nicole Cheney
Age: 19
Q. What’s your job title and where do you work?
A. I am a customer service representative and currently working at Apex Rental Cars Auckland International Airport
Q. What does your job involve?
A. My main role is dealing with the customers. If they have a complaint or issue with the car we fix it and make sure they leave our depot satisfied! I also pick up clients from the airport bring them back to our depot and sign them up and send them on their way.
Q. What’s the best thing about your job?
A. The variety. I love how not every day is the same. You come into work and there is always something different to be done or something new to learn. You also get to meet so many different kinds of people. For instance, I was dropping off a customer at the airport a couple of weeks ago and happened to see the ##### Cat Dolls and Lady Gaga leaving to fly back to LA. You can meet some of the most amazing people on a daily basis. I also love the fact that even though it and ‘Office Job’ you are hardly ever in the office your always outside moving cars or signing up clients, or picking/ dropping them off you are never always seated at a desk.
Q. Any downsides?
A. The only downside I would have to say would be having to work on the weekend.
Q. Did you study? Whereabouts?
A. I completed my high school education gaining NCEA level 1,2 and 3 and university entrance, but uni wasnt for me. In my last year at school I did a taster course for International Flight Attending with Travel Careers and Training in Auckland City. I enjoyed this course so much that I enrolled the following year to do the Advanced Airline travel and tourism course and the International Flight attending which took a little over a year to complete.
Q. What did you like about studying there?
A. I liked how it was a very hands on course and they taught you things that were actually useful in everyday life, like interview skills, how to dress and basically how to behave in a work enviroment. It gave me such a good insight into how a day in the real world would actually be like. The facilities were also outstanding. For International Flight attending we got to train and in actual cab trainer which was part of our class room, and in the last week of our course we got to go out to the airport where TCT (Travel Careers and Training) actually own their own plane. I would definetly recommend it.
Q. Any advice for girls who are hoping to work in a similar role (as to how they can get into it)?
A. If wanting to work in the travel and tourism industry, Travel Careers and Training is definitely the place I would recommend to get your foot in the door. They helped me so much with everything like what to wear to and interview, how to behave and how to answer questions. Also it’s a good idea to get plenty of work experience like working a cafe or any general customer service job. The more experince you have the more chances you have of getting the job you want.
