Travel Careers and Training

Noellene HooperName: Noellene Hooper
Age: 19

Q. What’s your job title and where do you work?
A.
I’m a flight Attendant for Qantas Airways.

Q. What does your job involve? Give us a run down of what you do in a typical day.
A. The main part of my job is the safety of passengers, before every flight we have a briefing with the CSM. Once we are in the plane we will then start off by doing an emergency equipment and security checks making sure we have everything,we will then be meet by the Captain who will then give us the flight time and weather reports.

Before the passengers come on we need to check that we have all the meals and everything else that will make the flight more comfortable. Once everyone is on we will then secure the cabin. Then come the wonderful safety demonstration, in flight service and attending to passengers’ needs. Once we have landed and said our goodbyes to the passengers we turn around and do it all back again to fly home.

Q. What’s the best thing about your job?
A. The best thing about my job is the crew. You really do become a family and if you have a great crew it’s not like going to work. But then being a flight attendant isn’t a job its a lifestyle. I love it because you will never have the same day over and over.

Q. Any downsides?
A. The only real downside is when the flights are running late. There is no real downside to a job were you get 3 day trip in Sydney its a free holiday smile

Q. Did you study? Whereabouts?
A. Yes I did study at Travel Careers and Training in Wellington

Q. What did you like about studying there?
A. I like it because everyone had the same passion for travel as I did. The tutors were awesome because they told it like it really is!They made it feel like we were flight attendants from day one.

Q. Any advice for girls who are hoping to work in a similar role (as to how they can get into it)?
A. I came from a little town to study travel and it is fantastic. TCT was really great in helping me find the job and prepare me for the interview. If you hear of any jobs going that you might be interested in go for it because you never know what can happen.

Free holidays, sounds like a plan. Is it true that you have to be a certain height and weight to be a flight attendant?
