Leaving your job, the right way
As satisfying as it might be to flip the bird at your boss and bail on a job you hate, it always pays to leave things on a good note. Try these tips for exiting your job the right way!
*Give your employer the required amount of notice before leaving
*Don’t tell your co-workers you’re leaving until you’ve told your boss
*Resign in person and follow up with an email or letter. Click here for our how-to on writing a resignation letter.
*Be professional (i.e. don’t get personal!)
*If possible, have another job lined up before you resign
*If you need to train a replacement, do a good job
*Don’t leave any personal stuff behind, including emails or other computer files!
It’s a small world! Leaving your job on a good note will ensure co-workers remember you well and could even lead to career opportunities in the future. It also pays to ask your boss if they’ll act as a reference for you, or provide you with a written one before you leave.
