Christchurch Quake: How to help
Photo from www.nzherald.co.nz
First of all - our thoughts are with everyone in Christchurch. We here at 24/7 girl are devastated by the news of yesterday’s earthquake, and its horrific effects. It’s awful to think you guys are going through this, and we hope you and your families are safe.
If you aren’t in Christchurch but are wondering how you can help, here are a few tips:
*Try to keep the phonelines clear. Some of the people who are trapped in the rubble have been calling/texting to let rescuers know where they are - check Facebook and other social networking sites first to see if friends and family are ok. This Google ‘person finder’ has also been created to help people confirm the whereabouts of family and friends.
*Donate money to the Salvation Army Canterbury Earthquake Appeal (more info on that and other ways to donate here).
*Show your support for 24/7 Girls in Christchurch, or share any information you have about emergency services etc. by commenting below or in our forum. Some of you already have, and it’s been great to see that expression of support!
For more on how you can help, along with safety procedures and other important info read this.

Thank you to everyone across the nation and around the world who has reached out to us in Christchurch, showing us love and renewing our strength in the knowledge that we aren’t forgotten. The Aroha we have been shown has reduced many people to tears, but these tears are good tears as we are so grateful for the help we have received so far and for being alive. Time is a strange thing - there are moments that seem to stand still stuck in time, while others pass by so quickly. It is hard to believe it has been only just over a week since I went to work thinking it would just be like any other day, though as lunch time was about to begin for me I huddled under my desk listening to glass cracking and things falling on the desk above me, watching the wall only centimetres from me crack apart and wondered if my time was through. Time will heal all our hearts, although part of us will never be the same, especially when we look at the scarred landscape. Time will help the memories of that day to be thought of less often. And in time we will rebuild what has been so violently lost. Kia Kaha to all New Zealanders. Posted by 55505 "on" 03/02 "at"11:31 AM |

I’ve felt so helpless. From Northland, I am lucky to have never experienced an Earthquake. Seeing Christchurch down on its knees has broken my heart. But seeing how much New Zealand has come together to help in their time in need, just makes me sooooo proud to be a New Zealander. And all the international aid that has poured in from around the world. Leaving their friends and families to help rescue ours. My love goes out to each and everyone of them. Everytime I turn on the news, I am saddened to hear more loss of life, and I can feel NZ crying with me. Words can not express what you have lost, but this little Country and our big hearts will help get you through it…....Much love xx Posted by Tina29 "on" 02/25 "at"11:35 PM |
| I’ve been in Christchurch for both of these earthquakes as I live here. It’s such an awful time, but the amount of people helping us is really giving me hope. It’s a sad time for Christchurch with people not knowing if their loved ones will ever come home. I’m just super lucky that none of my family or friends were harmed in this. And to those who’ve lost someone, may they rest in peace and may you stay strong. Christchurch is here for you. Posted by elorahh "on" 02/25 "at"03:39 PM |

My heart goes out to everyone in christchurch, young ones, teenagers and parents and grandparents. I cant imagine how devastating it must be! Watching the news all day and seeing the death toll rise rapidly is terrifying. I hope those that are missing are safely found. All we can do now, is keep strong and positive. Girls in particular who tend to be quite soft hearted, keep strong, positive and take one step at a time. My prayers are with you and your families. God Bless xx Posted by Bhavisha "on" 02/24 "at"06:25 PM |

| Definitely New Zealand’s darkest day. It’s scary how so many lives can change in a matter of seconds. I’m praying for everyone down there, especially families and friends of people who were killed, and people still trapped under rubble fighting for their lives. Keep strong Christchurch girls, you’re all so so so brave and I know that you can get through this. All of the world are supporting you. RIP to all the people who lost their lives, your memories will forever be in the hearts of every New Zealander. Posted by Hello1234 "on" 02/23 "at"01:52 PM |
