It Gets Better

Earlier this year Billy Lucas, a gay 15 year old from Indiana, committed suicide as a result of intense bullying on account of his sexuality. After hearing about Billy’s tragic death, columnist Dan Savage decided it was time to step in and reach out to other kids who are treated badly or feel isolated because of their sexuality.
Dan started the It Gets Better Project, a project that aims to let gay, lesbian and transgender teens know that there is hope - that even if they feel confused, alone and hopeless, it does get better. A huge number of people from around the world, of all sexual orientations, have jumped onboard and uploaded some incredibly inspiring, uplifting and positive videos to the It Gets Better website, telling their stories and letting LGBT teens know that It Gets Better. Watch the videos here.
Katy Perry even dedicated her new single ‘Firework’ to It Gets Better. Click here to watch the clip!
No matter what your sexual orientation, no one has the right to discriminate against or abuse you in any way. If you’re the victim of bullying, or are struggling with depression or thoughts of suicide, please tell someone. There IS hope, and things DO get better. If there’s no one you feel you can talk to, there are a number of organisations out there who exist to hear what you’re going through and offer support. In New Zealand, Youthline is a great place to start. Visit their website, or give them a call on 0800 37 66 33 or free txt 234.
Remember: every person has a right to your respect, if not your kindness. Before you say something negative to someone about their sexual orientation, even as a joke, think twice. “It gets better, but we also have to help it get better!”
Aine Zimmerman came out when she was 20 and has never looked back! Read her story here.

people shouldnt be judged no matter wat its there life and there own deciscion if thats how they are so be it !! Posted by Honeyrimz "on" 10/06 "at"12:29 PM |
| i think its really stupid and sad how people get teased, bullied, threatened just because they are have a different sexuality. What if gay or lesbian was normal and being straight was weird. Everyone is different. You don’t tease a piece of pasta because it looks or tastes different to the rest of the packet, you enjoy it anyway (unless its rotten or something is terribly wrong with it). Having a different sexuality is normal not something to tease someone about. Sometimes they are the nicest people you will ever meet. When someone comes out publicly and lets people know their chosen sexuality they would be nervous and it would be extremely hard for them to do it but they do. Not many people would come out about other stuff because they are too shy and scared but people with different sexualities have a harder time cause sometimes people just cant accept the fact that people are different to them. They are still people and its a free country so they can be or do whatever they want to be or do. It’s their choice and nothing and no one should stop them from feeling or doing what they want or feeling the way they feel. its their personal identity. you just don’t take that from someone. | This has been happening for years as no one can accept the different and unknown, I think its awesome people are out there getting the message across in teaching people its ok to be different and its ok for others to be different Posted by emily.jean "on" 06/13 "at"01:01 PM |

I think that people should just accept who other people are…it’s so sad how people feel that they can’t go to school or even go out because they feel embarrassed and just like they can’t take it anymore. Everyone should be able to be them selves all of the time and never hide who they really are. Posted by 54338 "on" 05/24 "at"10:07 PM |

I love how meaningful this video is. It tells us to stand up for what we believe in and not let ourselfs be scared of being judged. Everyone deserves to be them selves without anyone else judging them Posted by Wonderful.♥ "on" 05/15 "at"06:30 PM |

People should have the right to choose their sexuality. People shouldnt judge so lightly , think would you like it if it was you on the other line. No! No one would and no one should have to ever feel like that. We are all human beings on earth and we should all have the respect and dignity to help one another. And even if your the one in the position then say it strongly and proudly because if bullies there are bullies out there that cant stand people being different then they ofvisioluy havent seen the real world. Being the people we are , we should appreciate everyone for who they are , they make the world a better place and if we join them ,in appreciating who they are but also appreciating who we are then truly the world would be a better place. | Everyone should be entitled to their own feelings and emotions and everyone should be able to be the person they want to be. No one should get teased for their sexuality, it’s who they are and there is nothing wrong with it. People who bully others because of their sexual orientation don’t fully understand that everyone is different and there is no wrong way of living your life. Whether you think being gay or whatever is wrong, and you bully a gay person because you think they’re wrong in their beliefs, don’t you think treating somebody disrespectly is wrong also? Havn’t we all be taught that mistreating others is wrong. Before you begin to tell someone that their lifestyle is wrong, think ‘is the behavior I’m about to carry out wrong?’
I think everyone needs to love one another and learn to understand each other.People need to stop the teasing. Posted by 21991 "on" 02/11 "at"09:21 PM |
| People should not get teased for their sexuality. They find it hard enough themselves to come to terms with how they are feeling and they don’t need everyone else putting them down just because they a different. Know someone before you judge them. I think for people who are going through this should watch the it gets better video with Adam Lambert it is really emotional and i think it could help people. | i think that it is really sad that people are bullied for this because it is not up to us to tell someone else how they should feel…sexuality is a personal thing, not to be judged by others!!! Posted by Gemstar "on" 12/17 "at"08:37 AM |
