Q. How long have you been working on Craque?
A. I started in December of 2008.
Q. Why did you decide to start doing it?
A. It was a recipe passed down from my mother’s best friend. My friends absolutely loved it every time I made it for them and they suggested that I package and sell it.
Q. How does it work? Do you do it all yourself?
A. My younger sister does the design. It has been great working so closely with her. I’ve been doing the majority of the cooking myself. I’ve had a wonderful intern from NYU this spring semester who helped with product development and packaging. My friends have been a great help and very supportive as well.
Q. What’s your favourite flavour?!
A. The strawberry flavour is my favourite…but the original flavour is so delicious!
Q. What do you love about what you do?
A. I love using my hands to create something and I love the collaborative process in creating custom orders with my clients. The best feeling is seeing someone smile when they taste and enjoy the candy I make.
Q. Any highlights so far?
A. My candy was included in the gift bags for P Diddy’s White Party on July 4th in Los Angeles!
Q. What are some challenges?
A. The biggest challenge is balancing my own business with my day job in film marketing and publicity.
Q. Who are some people that inspire you?
A. My grandmother inspires me. She uses her creativity to help underprivileged children. She has always encouraged me to do interesting art projects and still gives me books and ideas every time I see her. I am incredibly appreciative.
Q. What would you say to a room of teenage girls, to inspire them?
A. If you truly believe in something and you really want to do it, there is always a way to make it happen. There will always be obstacles and challenges, but never give up.
