Life: A work in progress
It can be discouraging when things don’t happen as quickly as we’d like in life, but things are far from over if you haven’t made it by the time you’re 20. A handful of people are wildly successful young, but for most life just doesn’t play out that way. And it doesn’t have to! Life is a work in progress and the journey is half the fun!
Why the hurry?
In today’s world we want to go straight to the top of the ladder, straight to the gold medal, straight to the big bucks. We aren’t always encouraged to give ourselves time to develop, to make mistakes and learn from them. Instead, we tend to become discouraged when we don’t see an immediate pay off. We lose sight of all we’ve accomplished because we feel like there is so much more to achieve. We shrug off the little victories instead of celebrating them.
Why the hurry? A lot of people seem to think that if they don’t become successful young it’s over - they’ve failed. It’s so not true!
The big F
Just like pressure to be successful young can hold a lot of us back, so can the embarrassment that attaches itself to so-called failure. I say so-called because doing something the wrong way is actually a really good way of working out how to do it better!
Expecting to fail at least some of the time will empower you, not the opposite: ‘failures’ can be important milestones along the road to success.
As long as you’re tackling new challenges, there’s a high likelihood you’ll screw up. Instead of avoiding failure, and feeling discouraged when you do screw up or get something wrong, consider it an opportunity to learn, and then move on.
Enjoy the journey!
Whether it’s changing habits, learning something new, or building your career, allowing yourself time to see your goals and dreams realised will take a lot of pressure off. I’m not saying you shouldn’t throw yourself into achieving a goal - just that constantly looking for shortcuts can prove distracting and discouraging.
Try this: Identify a goal you have. Ask yourself if you’re willing to pursue that goal, even if it takes a while to achieve. If the answer is yes, sketch out your approach to achieving that goal, allowing a reasonable amount of time. Plan for the long haul and you’ll be less likely to lose perspective and/or feel discouraged if unexpected obstacles present themselves. You might find you achieve your goal sooner anyway!
Think of life as a ‘work in progress’ and you’ll be 100% happier, and a lot less stressed out. You have a lifetime to explore all those interests, talents and desires that are bubbling away inside of you - enjoy the journey!

| So true, I think a lot of us feel the pressure to achieve young. And sometimes we need to be told that its ok to just enjoy the moment. We’ve got the rest of our lives to live up to our potential Posted by Island Barbie "on" 02/27 "at"07:13 PM |
