Balancing your life
How can I get some time to myself without distancing myself from my friends and boyfriend? I’m in my second year of Uni, I have a job and a full on schedule. I see my boyfriend most nights and I always do something with my friends on the weekends. I feel like I never have any time to myself though, and when I do I’m so exhausted all I want to do is sleep!

Uni can be a really hard time, mostly because you have this urge to do absolutely everything so you don’t miss out! Unfortunately, if you do end up taking on too much, an aspect of your life is bound to suffer after a while. I know you don’t want to distance yourself from your friends, but if you don’t slow down you’re going to crash and burn.
Prioritising your life can be really hard, especially when you have to put the stuff you love further down the list to make sure they don’t compromise things like your university studies, which are super important right now. You need to accept that if you want to achieve at Uni and in your job though, you’re going to have to cut back on the friends time somewhat.
Don’t feel bad though! Just because you can’t go to every event doesn’t mean you’re distancing yourself from your friends. For example, instead of going and playing laser tag, invite your friends and your boyfriend round for popcorn and a DVD night. Something like that gives you the opportunity to wind down from a long day at Uni or work, but also lets you hang with friends. Also, try giving your friends some one-on-one time with you rather than seeing them all at once – then you won’t feel so exhausted!! Sarah xx
