I’m really stressing about my money!
I’m really stressing out about money. Whenever I see something I like I just buy it! My boyfriend and I just moved in together and we’ve never got enough money to do anything. It’s depressing. I’m in my first year of Uni and have got a student loan, but it’s not enough. Help!
First of all, call up Study Link and see if you’re eligible for a student allowance. You’d be surprised who is able to get an allowance. If you can prove that you live away from home and aren’t being supported by your parents then you’ll most likely be able to get one. That should sort you out for rent payments and food. As far as being able to get out and have fun with your friends you really need to think about what is worth spending your money on and what isn’t. For example… that new dress at Kookai might look awesome on you next Saturday, but it’s hardly worth it if you can’t even afford the taxi ride home. Go and take a good look at your wardrobe, I’m sure you’ll find stuff in there that you forgot you even had.
Priorities!
Basically, you need to learn how to prioritise. Figure out what sacrifices you are willing to make to live on your own. If you’re willing to turn down nights out with friends and live off two minute noodles to buy new shoes every week, that’s fine. But if you want to eat normally then you’re going to have to give up the shopping.
Look for extra work
Part time jobs are a good idea also, although they can become hard to juggle around study. Jobs which have casual hours are awesome in this respect, as you only have to take the hours that work for you. Try waitressing, bartending or promo work. Catering companies and promo companies often look for girls around your age, plus these kinds of jobs look great on your CV as it shows that you can communicate well with people of all ages. Sarah xx
