London Riots
Unbelievably, rioting in London has kept going for a third night, and it looks likely it’ll continue through a fourth. The kids doing the looting claim they want to ‘show the police and rich people they can do whatever they want,’ but I’m pretty sure the people worst affected by the violence are people who DON’T have a lot of money, who have worked hard to establish their businesses, and who have families and homes they’re already busting their butts to take care of and support. And I’m pretty sure that robbing this poor kid can’t be justified by any ideological argument.
(Comment below to let me know what you think of the riots and if you have family or friends in London or the other affected cities.)
Oh, and BY THE WAY!!!!!

| This makes me so mad. Its disgusting what people are capable of. This chaos all brought on by one guy being shot by a cop? it is sad however it does not justify destroying everything around you. No body is thinking about all the people they are hurting, business owners, families, individuals. Ughh Posted by hann "on" 08/16 "at"06:41 PM |

All my family live in the UK - mostly Manchester. I used to work as a police officer in Salford, Manchester (where the riots are currently happening) and can honestly say that this does not surprise me. The people who are so called rioting will have no idea why they are, they just want to cause trouble - some people are just like that. The police officers are people like me and you just trying to earn a living. I’m only 5 foot 2 along with some of my other colleagues, and having to defend ourselves and the property and protect other people is by no means an easy feat. These hooligans don’t fear anything as the law protects them. I know the Prime Minister has authorised the use of force and rubber bullets but at the end of the day, the police officers don’t like to use force and will also have to write out a million forms if they do use force, and have to worry if they did use force (even justifiably) if they will get sued and lose their jobs or even get a conviction from it. My mum said they closed the Trafford Centre in Manchester on Wednesday night as a precaution. Honestly, what is the world coming too. I heard the riots are dying down a bit now as the majority of the law abiding citizens have got together to put the rioters to a stop. Well done. Good on you. I would like to think that if people ever decided to riot in New Zealand that the majority of us would also put a stop to it. Posted by 44429 "on" 08/12 "at"04:24 PM |

My brother and my grandparents live in Hackney. It’s ridiculous because this all happened because that guy got shot. If they’re so bothered about a life being taken, why are they ruining all these other lives? I’m pretty sure a police man was killed, they can’t care too much about lives being lost. The dead guy would probably hate knowing that all this is happening because of his death, I sure would! The public are asking to shoot the rioters with rubber bullets but they’re not because of ‘human rights’ who gave these people the right to travel round the country trashing all the cities? I also have friends in Liverpool, Manchester and Nottingham where the riots happened too. They all just need to get a life and grow up. Posted by Rianna "on" 08/11 "at"11:03 AM |
