Should I break up with my boyfriend by txt?
My boyfriend and I have been together for four months. I’m over him now though and interested in another guy. I want to break up with him but I’m too scared to tell him in person and just want to text him. Should I?
No! No, no, no! No matter what the circumstances are it is NEVER ok to dump someone via text. Imagine how stink you’d feel if the person you cared about broke up with you through a text message… how terrible would it be knowing that they didn’t even care enough to at least pick up a phone or organise to meet you?
Coward’s way out
Texting is fine for keeping up with friends but it is way, way too impersonal to end a relationship over. Put simply, it’s the coward’s way out. With texting you only have to send a few words, make no explanation and you don’t have to deal with the reaction after. This guy is going to feel way worse than necessary and you’re going to end up looking like the bad guy of the break-up.
Show empathy
Most relationships come to an end after a while, and I’m sure your guy will understand it. Toughen up and tell him in person. It might be harder to do now, but it will make things way easier down the line. If you’re kind and show a bit of empathy when you break up with someone not only will you look better to everyone else but there’s also a greater chance of keeping your ex as a friend.
Respect him
Remember - guys talk just as much as girls do. If you don’t treat this guy with respect you may end up losing a future boyfriend when your ex is telling people how cruel you are!!
