Is jealousy killing your friendships?
Got a friend you love to hate? Maybe it’s that they always seem to look hot, do well at school or hook up with the guys you like. Whatever the reason - sometimes the people closest to us are the people we can’t handle being around!
So what do you do? Drop ‘em, or get over it?
How does it work?
Jealousy is kinda like poison: let a little in, and it’ll run right through you in no time.
Effects of jealousy:
- You feel like crap
- You push people away
- You miss out on celebrating with friends when they do well - and miss out on having them celebrating with you!
Not only is jealousy bad for our friendships, it slowly eats away at us as well! When we spend all our time wishing our lives were more like somebody else’s, we miss all the good things happening in ours. It can bring out a pretty ugly side to us too.
Jealousy has messed a lot of people up and stopped them from making the most of their life. Don’t let it do the same to you!
How do you kill jealousy?
Jealousy can be a hard thing to tame, but it is possible. Here are some tips for killing jealousy, before it kills your friendship!
Identify why you feel jealous. Is it because of your own insecurities, or does the other person set out to make you jealous?
If the problem is yours, own it. Blaming someone for how crappy you feel never ends well!
If your feelings of jealousy are really intense, step back from the friendship until you have a chance to clear your head.
Once you’ve been able to simmer down, try to look at your friend with clear eyes. Celebrate with them, compliment them, encourage them.
Thought: Often, jealousy is caused by our own insecurities. Identifying and dealing to those insecurities is the first step toward killing jealousy.
On the other hand…
Maybe you have a friend who’s jealous of you and it’s driving you crazy. Give them some space, and try not to take it personally - letting another person’s insecurities dictate how you live your life won’t do you, or them, any good!
Best of the rest
