Lady Gaga’s safe sex advice
M·A·C Cosmetics have been raising funds to help those affected by HIV/AIDS since 1994 (over $US160 million to date!), and in 2010 they’ve hooked up with Lady Gaga and 80‘s pop icon Cyndi Lauper to raise awareness around what is still a major issue for people all around the world.
As the celebrity spokespeople for the latest M·A·C Viva Glam campaign, these two incredible women are asking us to educate ourselves about the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS and other STIs, and to protect ourselves in any sexual relationship.
100% of sales of the new Viva Glam Gaga and Viva Glam Cyndi lipsticks and lipglass are being donated to the M·A·C AIDS Fund to support men, women, and children around the world who are living with or affected by HIV and AIDS. That means, when you buy a Viva Glam lippy every cent goes directly to support a hugely important cause!
Why unprotected sex is STILL a bad idea
AIDS is still a huge issue all around the world - and it’s fatal. There is no cure. A lot of people think the threat of AIDS has disappeared, or that it’s a ‘gay only’ or third world disease, but people in heterosexual relationships, from any walk of life, are also at risk of contracting HIV and developing AIDS. In a lot of countries the risk is actually greatest amongst heterosexuals.
Beyond HIV/AIDS it’s also important to protect against other STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections) like HPV, gonorrhea, chlamydia… the list is long, and the effects are nasty. It can seem a little clinical or awkward to stop sex to put a condom on, but when worn correctly they’re an effective way to protect against infection. It might not seem too romantic, but neither are genital warts.

Protecting yourself sexually doesn’t mean you’re a prude! It means you value your body, and every person you share it with. Lady Gaga said, “to be sexy you have to be smart too.” And if anyone has a hold on smart sexuality it’s her!
If you’re sexually active it’s so important to educate yourself about issues related to sexual health and to act to protect yourself. Using a condom when you’re having sex (oral sex counts too!)and limiting the number of people you’re sexually intimate with is one way of doing this; it’s also a good idea to get regular STI checks, and to ask your partner to get tested too. Although you should be able to assume a relationship is monogamous you have to allow for the possibility it’s not.
Make an intelligent choice - educate yourself and protect yourself!
