Dealing with sensitive skin

24/7 Girl Vintage article

People with sensitive skin tend to react to certain chemicals and environmental factors by developing red, blotchy and irritated skin. Having sensitive skin can be painful and sometimes even embarrassing (thank you very much big dry patches!), but with the right products and knowledge, you can take control!

Different people have different levels of skin sensitivity, and reactions can range from severe to mild, but no matter how badly your skin is affected, here are a few things to keep in mind if you’ve got sensitive skin:

  • Avoid using perfume or scented creams. They can be irritating, so go for odourless products instead.

  • Look for products that are marked ‘Hyper Allergenic’
    and ‘Soap Free’.

  • Don’t over wash your face and avoid harsh exfoliating products.

  • Always buy noncomedogenic (that means it won’t clog your pores), oil-free makeup products.

But the best advice when it comes to dealing with sensitive skin is to keep it simple! Avoid wearing foundation when possible (or try switching to a tinted moisturiser), always wear sunscreen and only use skin care products that are made specially for sensitive skin. Remember everyone’s skin is different and not every product you try is going to work wonders overnight. Chances are there’ll be a bit of trial and error involved in sorting out your perfect skin care routine.

When trying new products though, always check them on a small area of your skin first, and stop using a product if you think your skin is reacting to it. And when you think you’ve got it sorted, stick with it! No one knows your skin better than you do.

If you’ve got a skin question, we’d be happy to answer it - just let us know!
