Does covering your pimples with make up make them worse?
MYTH: ‘Covering your pimples with makeup makes them worse.’
Mothers who didn’t want their daughters wearing makeup probably made up this old wives tale!
There’s no need for the world to see your spots, and there’s no evidence that, when you know what you’re doing, makeup makes pimples worse. Just follow these golden rules:
1. Always treat spots before covering them up – makeup will hide them, but it won’t make them go away.
2. Oil free is key when applying makeup to pimple prone skin. Heavy makeup can clog pores, which can cause pimples to inflame.
3. If your foundation sponge or brush is caked in makeup, chances are there’ll be some nasty bacteria hiding in there too. Make sure you clean them regularly with a small amount of facial cleanser or shampoo, then rinse and leave to dry.
4. Always take your makeup off at night!!
