If I wear makeup will it make my skin break out?
MYTH: ‘Wearing makeup makes your skin break out.’
We’ve all heard this one before, and the truth is, it’s a big fat fib! Makeup doesn’t make your skin break out.
The old wives tale usually goes something along the lines of… ‘wearing makeup suffocates your skin, and when it can’t breath it breaks out’. Well we’ve got news for you wives! Your skin is nourished from the oxygen and nutrients that are carried in your blood INSIDE your body, so simply applying makeup on the skin’s surface is not going to stop your skin from breathing. Having said that, there are some instances when wearing makeup can cause problems – like going to bed with it on, using heavy, oil based cream foundations, and not sticking to a good cleansing regime – but these are all due to other factors too, not just the makeup.
There’s absolutely no reason you can’t wear makeup on a regular basis and have clean, clear and beautiful skin at the same time. Just keep these things in mind…
1. Always use oil-free, noncomedogenic products to prevent clogged pores, and don’t go overboard. Less is always more when it comes to makeup, especially when you’re young.
2. Stick to a regular cleansing regime. A flawless complexion starts with your skin and cleansing, toning, moisturising and exfoliating regularly will create a fresh, clean surface for applying makeup.
3. Always wash your makeup off at night!!
If you’ve got a skin question, we’d be happy to answer it - just let us know!
