Is your skincare routine working for you?
How do you know if the products you use are right for your skin? I feel like it should be obvious, but I can never tell if they are helping or making it worse.
It may seem like a silly question, but a lot of people use the wrong products for their skin without realising it.
The most effective skincare ingredients, like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, can be irritating when you first start using them and sometimes they can even make your skin worse before it gets better. For most people it takes 4 - 6 weeks for their skin to adjust to a new product. In this time it’s normal to see some change in the form of breakouts, drier or oilier skin. But it’s important to make sure you recognise the difference between your skin adjusting to a product, and it reacting to the product.
If you are experiencing any extreme problems, like intense dry, red or irritated skin or severe breakouts, then you should stop using the product immediately. And if your skin hasn’t returned to normal (or improved!) after 6 weeks of using a new product, then it’s probably not for you.
Everyone’s skin is different, and what works for one person doesn’t always work for the next. Finding the right skincare products could involve a bit of trial and error, but you’ll get there in the end. The key to success is to listen to your skin and go with what feels right for you.
If you’ve got a skin question, we’d be happy to answer it - just let us know!
