Winter - don’t let it make you lazy!
People used to be naturally way more active than we are today - even cleaning was a workout! In comparison, today many of us spend most our time at a computer - and define ‘activity’ in terms of how busy we are on Facebook!
So how can we make physical activity a natural habit - without turning it into a chore?
With the days an hour longer now, we here at 247girl have come up with some ideas for how you can make extra use of daylight saving, have a great time… and still call it a workout!
Fly a kite. Yep, it may not seem that ruthlessly active, but flying a kite gets you outside, gets you moving, and might even inspire you to take a walk in the park or play a game of touch when you’re done. Kite-surfing is pretty fun too…
Get snap-happy! Set aside a couple hours to go walkabout with your camera, and take photos as you go. Walking the streets is a great way to get to know an area - and you’ll see heaps through the lens you never noticed before!
Take a hike. Bored of your usual walk/run/bike route? Get out to a beach, hiking trail, or park that isn’t so close to home. You’ll be surprised how much you enjoy the change of scene - half the reason we hate exercise is ‘cause it’s boring!
Climb the walls. There are plenty of fun indoor activities that’ll get your blood pumping when it’s hard to get out!
Get some friends together and go rock climbing, go to the pools… or strap on your skates and take to the ice rink!
Bust a move. Dancing is one of the best ways you can keep active, AND have a great time! Hit the dancefloor with your girls, take a class and learn some new moves… or go crazy with a deodorant bottle (i.e. microphone!) in your room.
Hit the slopes - or the waves. What could be better than a day on the slopes or the water, ripping it up on your board? Snow or surfboard, that is. End the day with a steaming hot chocolate and oo-la, life is beautiful!
Some other Weekend Workout ideas:
Window shop… and do a few laps of your local shopping mall
Get out… for a walk with a friend at lunchtime, instead of sitting around
It’s an oldie but a goodie, but… USE THE STAIRS instead of the lift or escalator
Go to class… a yoga one that is. Or kickboxing, or swimming, or…
Walk the dog… or someone else’s!
If you’re going to hang out at the park with your mates, play on some of the equipment.
It’s easy to stay active when you decide it’s what you want. And once you’re in the habit of being more active you won’t even notice you’re doing it on purpose - there’s a chance you may even get antsy when you DON’T exercise! Our bodies might take a little convincing to get started, but at the end of the day life’s just way more interesting when you get out and live!
